News, Updates, and We Need Your Help!

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Hey everyone! Sorry it's taken so long for anyone to start responding to your notes, faves, and messages to the club. We've all been busy with other things, and somehow this fabulous club has fallen through the cracks. But, on the good news, we're back!

I'm also looking for another person or two to help me run this account, so if you have the time to spare, and want to be a part of it, please note me here and let me know you're interested.

Ok everyone! WE NEED YOUR HELP!

One of our purposes here on *DeviantsForTheCure is to get the word out about people who need our support with dealing with cancer. This one struck a big cord with me, as I heard about this little girl from my father. Harley Thornton is 2 1/2 years old, and has a form of cancer called neuroblastoma.

The child is very sick, and her parents are financially strapped. The parents live with their three children in a one bedroom home in West Virginia. They have been taking Harley to Johns Hopkins medical center for experimental treatments on this disease in the hopes that she'll get better. But that in itself takes a lot of money, more than the insurance will pay. So thousands of dollars are going to this baby's medical care. She's not well enough to move and play like normal children her age. Harley sleeps most of the day, and has an IV with morphine to help with the pain from this disease.

What can we do about it?

Well, the family needs help financially. That's one of the biggest concerns, but they also need prayers and support. This is a very hard time for any parent, as I'm sure some of you will identify with.

Here's some links for you all:

C'mon everyone! We can make a difference to this family can't we?

well we need more publicity... so if you can post something in your journal or signature i'd appreciate it. and if you've got any ideas, note me or the club and we'll get to working on it first thing. after we get back to having some people's interest, i'm going to eventually need some help managing everything on the account itself. and i'll definately keep you in mind. :hug:s

I'll go update my journal and link to this article! One of the flower girls in my wedding is only 7 years old and has cancer so this hits close to home for me! In fact one of the biggest favors my fiance and I will be giving out at our wedding is a donation to the American Cancer Society. We've both had a lot of cancer in our families.

I thank $Moonbeam13 for directing me to this site. What a great organization. Cancer has touched and killed too many people in my life, and I too am active in trying to 'beat it'.
Because this is a child, I find it particularly difficult to accept. Children should never have to experience such pain and suffering.
I have taken the time to donate to little Ms. Harley Thornton and sent along with that, my prayers.
Now, what can I help your organization. I have a little time and would love to help you in anyway that you could use. Please let me know.

:hug:s i just started this organization up this last year, and then with so many things going on in all three of our admin's lives we haven't had too much time in getting things set up and rolling to help get more help out there. right now it's just me working this group, and trying to come up with ideas to help get us moving. i think this is a pretty darn good idea myself (the group, not me doing this by myself) because so many people are touched by this disease.

One of the original ideas behind the group is to set up journals and deviations about people's fights through cancer, their families journeys as well. and also to set up a part of this group dedicated to helping others here on dA going through the same issue. similar to what *Circleoffriends does, i suppose. sometimes people just need someone else to listen and offer support and show that they aren't on their own with fighting.

I am looking for a new admin to help with the group, as our `ToAPP is having to step down for personal reasons. right now our major goal is to get people to start joining and getting support from the community. and I'm thankful that your wonderful daughter is helping us with that. I'd love any help you feel you can give us. I don't want to ask too much, because I don't know what your time constraints are right now. If you could note me either here or over on my account, we can talk some more and see what we can do...

:hug:s and much love mombeam... we need more people like you and your daughter in this world.. you are a blessing.

Thanks so much! I'm sorry to hear that the baby is sick... (ok. little girl, but I'm a mom too, so they're all babies to me lol) How is she doing? I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers. Keep me updated on her if you don't mind. :hug:s

She is doing well right now. She's spoiled rotten and is quite a trooper! I'll keep you updated! Especially as it gets closer to my wedding...maybe I'll be able to put up some info on here for people to donate money to the ACS or something. =D
